About the Role
The Radiation Oncology Nurse Navigator serves as an expert oncology population-specific clinician and patient advocate. This role assists cancer and oncology patients and their families in navigating the complex healthcare system in an organized, effective, and efficient manner. The position standardizes and improves the efficiency of care for patients in the cancer service line throughout the continuum of care. The Nurse Navigator models patient-centered care and assumes leadership responsibilities with high-level contributions in direct patient interaction, the department, the service line, and across the institution.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical navigation for oncology patients and families.
- Facilitate and coordinate multidisciplinary meetings.
- Advocate for patients to ensure efficient and effective care delivery.
- Standardize and improve care processes within the cancer service line.
- Lead and contribute to patient-centered initiatives at the departmental, service line, and institutional levels.
Requirements
- Active RN license in the state of Louisiana.
- BLS CPR certification required.
- 1-3 years of nursing experience in a clinic setting required.
- 1 year of oncology nursing experience required; 2-5 years preferred.
- Experience as a nurse navigator and/or patient educator in oncology preferred.
Qualifications
- ONS/OCN certification preferred.
- Nurse Navigation certification preferred.
