Qualifications
- Required: Medical Assistant Certification from one of the following: AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT
- Required: Ability to work well as part of the interdisciplinary team in the treatment and care of sick and/or terminally ill patients and their families
- Preferred: 2 years' experience working with patients and their families
- Preferred: Associate degree or higher in a healthcare related field
Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and coordination to provide guidance to the cancer patient from screening to survivorship
- Coordinates patient request for information regarding the disease process, expected side effects of treatment and community resources
- Maximizes treatment adherence by coordinating with patients and a multidisciplinary team
- Tracks and reviews orders, medical tests, and medical procedures and follows those results to provide timely decision-making information for the providers
- Functions in an organized and time conscious manner
- Maintains necessary professional standards for employment
- Understands the side effects of procedures and treatments and coordinates the management of side effects under the directions of the physician
- Supports the patient during difficult decision-making periods
- Participates in the appropriate division of these job functions with other patient navigation staff with direction and guidance from providers and management
Marginal Job Functions
- Performs charge duties as assigned
