Patient Care Technician - Surgical Critical - Less than PT - Night

Part-time, 12-hour night shift position in the United States. This is a non-exempt role requiring 12 hours per week.

About the role

A member of the care delivery team who functions under the direction of, and assists, a Registered Nurse to provide delegated, direct patient care intervention, including the performance of sterile and non-sterile procedures. Responsible for providing a safe environment for assigned patients; completing assigned work; monitoring patients for changes in condition and reporting those changes to the RN; documenting completed work; and reporting any pertinent observations from interventions. This position uses acquired clerical skills to assist in maintaining efficient workflow, ensuring safe, quality care with a patient-centered approach focusing on continuity of care and patient satisfaction. Independent clinical decision-making is outside the scope of this role—refer clinical questions to the provider or nurse.

Responsibilities

• Implement identified care plans through coordination with the interdisciplinary care team to promote health and wellness.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to achieve expected patient outcomes.
• Communicate pertinent patient data and information in a timely manner.
• Promote infection prevention using standard precautions, proper procedures for dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene, and cleanliness of patient rooms/departments.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), accurately measure and record weight, height, vital signs, and report changes to the assigned nurse.
• Deliver care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, fostering caring relationships and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
• Promote a mutually respectful environment that encourages idea exchange and supports professional relationships while integrating ethics into practice.
• Demonstrate advocacy in all roles and settings.

Requirements

• Successfully completed the first semester in an accredited nursing program, or
• Successfully completed a medical assistant or patient care technician program, or
• A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician certification may substitute for the educational requirement.
• Experience in an office, hospital, or clinic setting (preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

• Patient Care Technician Certification (PCTC) from AMCA, or
• An active certification to practice in Kansas as either a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician (required as a substitute for education qualifications).
• First Responder (RQI) certification required within 90 days of hire.
