Patient Care Technician Surgical Care Center Part time Days

Part-time position with a schedule of 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM, including rotating weekends.

Join Northwestern Medicine’s CDH Surgical Care Center, a 49-bed unit caring for post-surgical, acute-care patients recovering from a variety of orthopedic and general surgeries. This unit is in the country’s top decile of patient satisfaction, with over 50% of nurses holding professional certifications. As a Patient Care Tech, you will reflect the mission, vision, and values of NM, adhere to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and comply with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards. Under the supervision of an RN, you will perform basic patient care activities.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking, functioning effectively under stressful situations.
• Utilizes critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work quickly as patient and unit needs change.
• Serves as a liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom, and call lights politely, using appropriate etiquette, and communicates information to staff, family, and patients.
• Manages overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager, as needed.
• Performs pre-census tasks and validates daily admission, discharge, and census lists, as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or nursing school students with one semester of clinical completed.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Phlebotomy course.
