Patient Care Technician Medical Oncology Part time Days

Part-time position with a schedule of 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM, including rotating weekends.

About the Role

CDH Medical Oncology (4A) is a 26-bed specialized adult oncology/step-down unit affiliated with the NM Warrenville Cancer Center. Our unit cares for patients 18 years of age and older, treating all cancer diagnoses. We specialize in inpatient chemotherapy and symptom management, as well as palliative and end-of-life/hospice care. The unit features a highly engaged, supportive staff working cohesively together, with daily multidisciplinary care reliability rounds to enhance patient/family communication and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking, functioning effectively under stressful situations.
• Utilizes critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work quickly as patient, unit, and staff needs change.
• Serves as a liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom, and call lights politely, using appropriate etiquette, and communicates information to the appropriate staff, family, or patient.
• Manages overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager, as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge, and census lists, as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school students with one semester of clinical completed.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Graduate of a Phlebotomy course.
