Patient Care Technician - Specialist

About the role
This position provides safe, compassionate patient care while respecting cultural diversity and maintaining a professional, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities include answering call lights/phones, transporting patients, stocking supplies, assisting with meal trays, performing ADLs, vital signs, weights, intake/output, point-of-care testing, specimen collection, simple dressings, bladder scans, restraint application/removal, and HAC/PSI prevention. Advanced skills such as IV insertion/removal, Foley/straight catheterization, phlebotomy, and transport coordination may be performed upon competency.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet Patient Care Technician – Senior requirements
- 1 year of healthcare experience and enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program with at least one completed clinical rotation
- 1 year of healthcare experience and a completed bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field
- Successful completion of: UPMC Patient Care Technician Specialist class, eRecord training, and annual professional contribution
- Nursing students with at least one completed clinical rotation preferred
- EMT, Paramedic, or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program preferred
- May be required to complete UPMC cardiac rhythm course based on unit needs
Licensure, Certifications & Clearances
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (AHA) required within 30 days of hire
- ACLS preferred
- Act 34 clearance required
