About the role

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides basic healthcare and support to patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. The PCT is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with patients' basic needs.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care, including comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care, hygiene, and mobility assistance, including unit-based specialty duties.
• Acts as a liaison between the patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Delivers high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees.
• Ensures accurate, precise, and timely documentation for patient care when applicable.
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent patient and departmental information.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
• Mobilizes patients using therapeutic transfer techniques to foster independence and safety.
• Encourages patients to complete tasks independently when possible.
• Individualizes care based on patients' interests and hobbies.

Requirements

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred upon hire; must obtain from an approved source prior to direct patient care.
• Completion of one of the following:
  • Successful completion of a nursing aide training program, OR
  • Successful passing of STNA (State Tested Nurse Aide) state testing (required if in OH LTC), OR
  • CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) certification, OR
  • Completion of a nursing program with at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation, OR
  • One year of relevant experience in a clinical setting.
• Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care (preferred, not required).

• Professional engagement with staff and patients.
• Ability to work proactively in a rapidly changing environment.
• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred).
