Patient Care Technician (PCT)

About the Role

As a WellNow Patient Care Technician, you will be a vital part of the team, maintaining the “path” between the front end and clinical side of operations. You will contribute to improving the delivery and quality of healthcare to our Urgent Care patients while being supported in your growth as a medical professional. Responsibilities

• Patient Care Responsibilities:
  • Take patient history and obtain vital signs
  • Perform phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples, if certified
  • Complete corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue, and culture samples
  • Perform point of care testing such as strep, mono, glucose, influenza, urine pregnancy, urinalysis, and blood glucose levels
  • Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients
  • Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye/ear irrigations, I & D’s, splinting/ortho-glass preparation, EKG)
  • Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA)
  • Ensure equipment is in working order and log laboratory procedures when completed
  • Maintain examination rooms and stock necessary medical supplies
  • Perform duties to ensure good patient flow and accompany the provider to the bedside
  • Perform tasks to improve provider efficiency during the course of a shift
  • Document provider-dictated patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical/surgical history, family/social histories, medications, and allergies
  • Document patient medical history, physical examination findings, and procedures as performed by the provider
• Reception Responsibilities:
  • Explain accepted and out-of-network insurances to patients and provide pricing information
  • Greet patients and complete registration in a timely manner
  • Answer and appropriately triage phone calls
  • Collect patient responsibility for visits
  • Print, scan, and fax reports
  • Clean the clinic before, during, and after shifts
• Occupational Medicine Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate completion and timely scanning of all required Occupational Medicine documentation into the EMR system
  • Complete Occupational Medicine testing, including:
    • Urine Drug Screens
    • Breath Alcohol Testing
    • Hair Collection Drug Screens
    • DOT & Non-DOT Physicals
    • Vision and Audio Testing
    • Pulmonary Function Testing
    • Audiograms

Requirements

• 6+ months of experience as a Patient Care Technician or similar role; OR equivalent education/certification in a related healthcare specialty
• Preferred experience in Urgent Care, Occupational Medicine, and/or Phlebotomy
• Ability to identify equipment problems and correct or notify team leader
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients, and families
• Computer knowledge and skills, including patient registration and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Ability to complete and maintain CPR certification
• Excellent listening and note-taking skills
• Strong communication skills, including grammatical, spelling, and verbal abilities
• Detail-oriented with proven ability to work accurately under pressure
• Capable of working well on a team
• Friendly and customer service-oriented
• Ability to manage high call and patient volume

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Preferred certifications:
  • EMT Basic certification
  • Medical Assistant certification through one of the following:
    • Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcare Association
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Technologists
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists

Starting at $21.00 per hour
