Patient Care Technician - Part Time Rotating Shifts - Pre-Op PACU
Position Overview
IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide a phenomenal patient experience by anticipating the needs of patients such as providing drinks, assisting with meal ordering, encouraging walking, assisting with baths, and providing clean linens and gowns. The PCA will also provide clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes in a patient's behavior to the primary RN or charge nurse. They will ensure patient safety by utilizing safety measures and maintaining concentration under high levels of tension and stress.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes in a patient's behavior.
- Encourage walking and assist with baths as needed.
- Obtain drinks, assist with meal ordering, and provide clean linens and gowns.
- Ensure patient safety by using safety measures such as gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and maintaining close proximity to patients during movement.
- Report any issues or concerns to the primary RN or charge nurse promptly.
Requirements
- Current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
- Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
- Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
- Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain concentration under high levels of tension and stress.
- Ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within a limited time for completion.
- Knowledge of principles of infection control.
- Ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive movements.
- Ability to read and perform basic math.
- Ability to organize tasks and attend to details.
- Knowledge of principles of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a compassionate bedside manner, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
