Duties & Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in recreational and rehabilitation activities tailored to meet the assessed needs, interests, and capabilities of patients.
- Serves as a supervisor for patients/residents during field trips.
- Assists with the physical care and personal hygiene of selected patients, including changing simple dressings, giving enemas, and taking vital signs.
- Prepares patients for meals and feeds them if necessary.
- Prepares patients for examinations by performing assigned procedures such as temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, and measurements, and assists in the examination process.
- Prepares examining rooms for examinations, treatments, and procedures, sets up and arranges equipment, and tests equipment for safe operation.
- Changes linen and makes beds.
- Maintains ward, linen, utility, treatment, storage rooms, and recreational areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Assists in the care and storage of patients' clothing and property, and sterilizes clothing and other personal items when required.
- Reports observations of patients' and families' condition, mental state, and social behavior to medical and professional staff caring for patients, and participates in the assessment and/or care of patients and families.
- Maintains, controls, completes, processes, and files patients' charts, records, transportation, time records, appropriate forms, and documents.
- Affords support in clinic, admission procedures, and regulation of visitors.
- Escorts ambulatory patients and transports non-ambulatory patients by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, or stretcher-bed, including those with intravenous apparatuses to all departments, clinics, diagnostic and therapeutic units, religious and recreation centers, and other areas within the facility and facility's affiliated hospital.
- Accompanies children to facility school and explains the nature of trips to patients.
- Transports bodies and/or assists mortuary caretakers in transporting bodies to the mortuary and places them in refrigerators when necessary.
- Screens DOA's and completes the required DOA reports.
- Transports fetuses, amputated parts, or other specimens to the morgue and provides postmortem care.
- Collects and delivers specimens, charts, X-rays, regular and emergency requisitions for diagnostic tests and treatments.
- Performs other messenger duties, as required.
- Provides for the comfort needs of patients and assists patients with all aspects and activities of daily living.
- Maintains clinical competence by attending continuing education programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from elementary school.
- Successful completion of a basic skill training program for Nurse's Aides, or its equivalent.
