About the role

The Patient Care Technician – Neurology Unit- Day position offers assistance to patients in various personal care needs, exercises, and vital sign monitoring under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. This role requires a combination of education, certification, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc.
  • Assists with exercising and ambulating patients; maintains physical safety and comfort of patients under supervision of a RN/LPN.
  • Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
  • Performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc., as directed by RN/LPN.
  • Collates specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
  • Documents basic patient care into electronic medical record.
  • Aids nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
  • Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.
  • May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with the completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in using electronic medical records systems.

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position is $18.84 - $27.32, determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience.

Schedule

This is a part-time position, 24 hours per week, with hours of 7:00am-7:30pm, every other weekend required.
