Patient Care Technician - Neurology Unit - Days
About the role
The position highlights a Patient Care Technician specifically for the Neurology Unit, working part-time, 24 hours per week. Candidates must attend a mandatory orientation on weekdays before starting and are only available for year-round positions. Hours are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with every other weekend required.
Responsibilities
- Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc., under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
- Assists with exercising and ambulating patients; uses correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of patients under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
- Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports any abnormalities to the nurse.
- Performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of Foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc., as directed by RN/LPN.
- Captures specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers them as necessary.
- Documents basic patient care into the electronic medical record.
- Aids nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
- Adequately answers unit phones and directs calls to the appropriate parties.
- May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited CNA course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
- Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
Qualifications
The qualifications include the ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Skills
Basic computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to follow instructions are essential.

Pay
The hourly pay range is $18.84 - $27.32, determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience.
Schedule
The schedule is 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, every other weekend.
