About the role

The Patient Care Technician - Medical Pulmonary Unit position offers a range of benefits including premium pay, incentive pay, and opportunities for annual increases based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc.
  • Assists with exercising and ambulating patient; utilizes correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of patient under supervision of a RN/LPN.
  • Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
  • As directed by RN/LPN performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc.
  • Collections specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
  • Documents basic patient care into electronic medical record.
  • Aids nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
  • Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.
  • May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.

Requirements

  • The level of knowledge normally obtained through the completion of high school.
  • Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with the completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Qualifications

  • Part time, 24 hours/week.
  • Must be able to attend a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Orientation from about 8:00am-4:30pm on a the week of starting.
  • Hours: 7:00am-7:30pm, Every other weekend.

Skills

  • Ability to assist patients with various personal care needs.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient safety.
  • Proficiency in obtaining and documenting patient vital signs.
  • Ability to perform and document medical procedures.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Pay

The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Schedule

Part time, 24 hours/week. Hours: 7:00am-7:30pm, Every other weekend.
