About the role
This position functions under the direction of, and assists a Registered Nurse to provide delegated, direct patient care intervention, including the performance of sterile and non-sterile procedures.
Responsibilities
- Function as a member of the care delivery team to provide safe, quality patient care.
- Maintain a safe environment for assigned patients.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and report these changes to the RN.
- Document patient care interventions and report any pertinent observations.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to achieve expected outcomes.
- Implement strategies to promote health and wellness.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
- Promote infection prevention through the use of standard precautions and proper procedure in dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene, and cleanliness of patient rooms/departments.
- Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), accurate measurements of weight, height, vital signs, and report any changes to the assigned nurse.
- Deliver care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, fostering caring relationships, respect, and ethical practice.
- Mentor new PCTs to ensure successful enculturation, orientation, competence, and emotional support.
- Support students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Participate in lifelong learning through critical thinking, self-reflection, and inquiry.
- Comply with all policies, standards, mandatory training, and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program.
- Successfully completed a medical assistant or patient care technician program.
- A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician may be substituted for the educational requirement.
- Active certification to practice in Kansas as either Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician is required as a substitute for education qualifications.
- First Responder - RQI required within 90 days.
