Patient Care Technician - Full Time, Days (Norwalk)

Supports the work of the Nursing staff to meet the needs of patients in order to provide safe, efficient, timely and excellent high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs.
• Assist patients with hygiene and elimination.
• Ensure the safety of the patient and maintain a clean and safe unit environment.
• Assist with stocking unit supplies and operate hospital equipment as directed.
• Perform routine clerical tasks and assist with other related duties as assigned.
• Accurately measure and record patient weights and vital signs; recognize and report changes in the patient's condition, take appropriate action, and document all activities as required.
• Receive and accurately inventory and secure patient belongings as appropriate.
• Assist patient with feeding, hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, comfort measures, and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL), considering patient age, gender, culture, and stated preferences while maintaining patient privacy and respect.
• Assume responsibility for maintaining a clean and safe environment; ensure Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with patient care activities as directed by licensed nurse, including specimen collection/transport, turning and positioning, and patient transportation.
• Perform frequent and hourly rounding to ensure safety and promote a positive patient experience.
• Actively engage in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions regarding work activities.
• Demonstrate appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification.
• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.
• Six (6) months of experience, within the last three (3) years, in a hospital, clinic, or in a SNF/Home Health setting as a nurse assistant, care partner, medical assistant, or student nurse with one semester in a clinical setting.

Pay

Min - $22.50 | Max - $29.40 (calculated average rate of pay for 12 total hours worked, including overtime).
