Position Overview

The UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking a full-time Patient Care Technician to support their Cardiovascular Pre- and Post-Recovery Unit (CPRU). This position works under direct supervision, assisting with various patient care tasks in the CPRU and procedural labs.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with lab preparation including stocking supplies and set up.
  • Manages daily deliveries of stores items to the procedural labs, putting items away and notifying nursing staff of backorders.
  • Performs quality controls on glucometer and maintains supplies to comply with regulatory guidelines. Performs blood glucose testing on patients as delegated.
  • Assists with checking outdates on supplies as delegated.
  • Completes requisitions and other forms as directed, including preventative maintenance monitoring of equipment in the lab.
  • Prepares and connects noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment to patients.
  • Reports pertinent patient information and incidents to the person in charge.
  • Transports patients by bed, cart, or wheelchair between recovery units, procedural labs, and inpatient units.
  • Assists with lab turnover cleaning duties as delegated.
  • Provides basic CPR as required.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Self-learning and maintenance of clinical skills, analyzing own performance, and setting goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with patients, family members, and health care staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Provide care with regard to patient condition and age.
  • Knowledge of principles of sanitation and health hazards.
  • Medical terminology, instruments, and supplies knowledge.
  • Collect patient data and maintain accurate records.
  • Keyboarding and computer data entry skills.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Direct patient-care experience.
  • Experience working in a health care environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience providing customer service relations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
