PCT I- Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • AHA BLS healthcare provider certification required within 90 days from DOH.
  • PCT II- Education and Experience Requirements:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • AHA BLS provider certification course required within 90 days from date of hire.
    • Minimum of three (3) months experience as a PCT or currently in a junior semester of an Associates or Bachelor’s nursing program.

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Requirements:

    • General knowledge of high school subject matter including sciences, simple medical procedures / terminology, and office equipment.

    Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications Required:

    • BLS certification is required 90 days’ from date of hire.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Assists in the delivery of patient care by performing, specific patient care tasks per scope of service and as directed by the Registered Nurse.
    • Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges and transport of patients.
    • Obtains and records Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, Blood Pressure, Oxygen saturation, weights, and Blood Glucose testing.
    • Reports abnormalities and condition changes to primary nurse promptly.
    • Demonstrates competence in advanced skills to include, but not limited to: oral suctioning, enemas (no Fleets enemas), clean dressings after a RN assessment, tube feeding set-up, external catheter (condom catheter), post-mortem care and suction canister set-up.
    • Communicates effectively and frequently with health care team members to share information and solve problems in a positive and result-oriented manner both verbally and electronically.
    • Documents legibly on all hospital forms using standardized abbreviations.
    • Gets patient report from the RN and off-going PCT at the beginning of the shift. Gives end-of-shift report to the primary nurse and oncoming PCT at the end of the shift.
    • Participates in walking rounds with the oncoming and off going PCT at shift change.
    • Provides personalized care to patients and families. Identifies and documents special needs on the patient rounding sheet.
    • Utilizes available educational materials, programs, nursing literature and resource personnel for career development and attends mandatory in-services to maintain unit competencies.
    • Utilizes material, equipment and time in a safe, therapeutic and cost effective manner.
    • Assists with appropriate tasks in all code situations (i.e. CPR, obtaining equipment, etc.) under the direction of the Code Blue Team.
    • Adheres to Organizational infection control practices and policies and to established safety and security policies, including using two (2) identifiers whenever taking blood samples or performing any procedure.
    • Maintains and Model REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
    • Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Working Conditions

    • Significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity.
    • Occupational: Some occupational risk.
    • Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force.
    • Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
