Overview

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the 2 South Oncology unit, a 26‑bed unit specializing in leukemia, lymphoma, radiation, gynecologic cancers, hematologic disorders, and end‑of‑life care. The unit provides exceptional, quality care and works on the fight against cancer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and support the admissions and discharge process under the direction of a professional nurse.
  • Implement delegated aspects of nursing care as an unlicensed staff member.
  • Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any changes to the nurse.
  • Comply with patient safety practices.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • One of the following certifications or experience: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT); US Navy Hospital Corps School; Emergency services credentials (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic); current student in RN, LPN, RT, or PT program with at least one semester completed; or recent (within three years) work experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
  • One year of prior health‑care experience preferred.

Pay

Base pay range for full‑time employment is $18.93 – $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, standby/on‑call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra‑shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation varies based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
