Patient Care Tech Short Stay Unit

Position Purpose

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Shifts Available

• 6:30 am–3:00pm
• 2:30pm–11:00pm
• 10:30pm–7:00am
• 7pm–7am
• 7am–7pm

Status Available

• Full-time
• Part-time

Every Other Weekend and Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.

Required Education / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program

What you will do

Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.

• Assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection
• Collects and sends specimens including blood and blood cultures
• Inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters
• Records patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements

Unit Information

• Short Stay has 43 rooms (22 bays and 21 private rooms with door and bathroom)
• Short Stay unit usually has adult patients greater than 18 years old and treats post-surgical and post procedural patients
• Length of stay can vary, post op patients are 24–48 hours; mix of observation and inpatient status patients so some patients can stay up to a week or so
