Patient Care Technician - FT Nights - Surg Short Stay

About the role

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, monitors vital signs, assists with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal. Under the direction of the professional RN nurse, the technician also observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents these observations accurately and promptly, reporting any changes to the nurse or medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care, supports activities of daily living
  • Maintains vital signs
  • Ambulates and assists with mobility
  • Performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal
  • Observes and documents patient conditions, reporting changes to the nurse or medical staff
  • Complies with patient safety practices
  • Completes basic life support (BLS) within 90 days of hire

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year prior healthcare experience preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA), national certified medical assistant (NCMA), national patient care technician (NCPCT), US Navy Hospital Corps School, emergency services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), or current enrollment in a clinical program with at least one semester of a related degree (RN, LPN, RT, PT)
  • De-escalation and physical intervention training within 30 days of hire, except for those in Behavioral Health within 15 days of hire

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
  • Successful completion of CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, US Navy Hospital Corps School, EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, or current enrollment in a clinical program with at least one semester of a related degree (RN, LPN, RT, PT)
  • Current work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
