Department: Progressive Care Unit
Shift: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week / 72 hours per pay period
Facility: Atrium Medical Center
About the role
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works with nurses and doctors to provide direct patient care. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and recover. The role may also include Unit Clerk (HUC) duties, assisting with paperwork and administrative tasks to ensure smooth hospital operations and optimal patient care.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing
- Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating
- Collect patient samples (e.g., urine)
- Report any changes in a patient’s condition to nursing staff
- Assist with patient walks, hygiene, weighing, and vitals
- Perform clerical duties, including paperwork and administrative tasks to support unit operations
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- BLS CPR certification (training provided during orientation if not already certified)
- No prior job experience required, but must meet one of the following:
- Completed STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training
- Provided direct patient care (e.g., taking vitals, bathing, assisting with restroom use) within the past 5 years
- Currently enrolled in nursing school with at least one completed clinical rotation
Skills
- Ability to multitask effectively, even with frequent interruptions, while maintaining a positive attitude
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and listening communication skills
- Prior hospital experience is a plus
