PURPOSE STATEMENT
A Patient Care Tech assists with nursing care, performs job functions according to specific age and/or developmental needs, and works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Charge Nurse of the unit.
Demonstrated Knowledge
- bathing patients
- assisting patients with ambulation and/or transfers
- performing vital signs
Customer Service
Demonstrate positive customer service relations.
Quality Improvement
Routinely participates in Quality Improvement projects and encourages the department to continuously improve.
Supporting Others
Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
Mission/Vision/Philosophy
Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively.
Attendance and Other Duties
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Perform other essential duties as assigned
Requirements
- Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certification: Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred.
- Experience: Equivalent experience as a nursing assistant, or 6 months of experience in the medical field, or a current nursing student that has completed the Fundamentals of Nursing is acceptable in lieu of certification.
- Training: Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required (can obtain after hire).
- Skills: Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
- Additional Duties: Expected to serve as sitters as needed, following the successful completion of designated sitter education and training provided.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 12 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
