Patient Care Tech - MedSurg, Neuro, Nights
Athens, GA – Full-time night shift position (7pm-7am) with sign-on bonus available.
About the Role
Piedmont Athens Regional, a primary Stroke center and DNV Stroke Certified facility, features a 30-bed acute care Neuro Science floor specializing in stroke, spinal injuries, head injuries, and pre/post-op surgical care. The unit is staffed by NIHSS-assessment certified nurses who complete the Georgia stroke class curriculum. This fast-paced inpatient unit supports patients throughout their recovery continuum.
The Neurology unit provides nursing care using structured nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Staff nurses maintain practice standards, coordinate patient care activities, and demonstrate professional growth and accountability.
The Patient Care Tech works under the supervision of licensed clinical staff to deliver care across the lifecycle, performing treatments, procedures, and operating equipment in alignment with clinical setting and hospital policy. Patient ratios vary based on volume and acuity, with flexibility for adjustments as needed.
Team support includes a Stroke Coordinator, PT/OT, Respiratory Therapy, Physicians, Case Management, Social Work, Secretary, Phlebotomy, lift team, IV team, STAT team, and Pharmacy. A comprehensive orientation pairs new and experienced staff with a qualified preceptor for goal-setting and training to ensure success.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care under the supervision of licensed clinical staff.
- Demonstrate competency with treatments, procedures, and equipment appropriate to the clinical setting.
- Adhere to hospital policies and standards of practice.
- Coordinate patient care activities with assigned staff to ensure quality nursing care.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required upon hire.
Qualifications
- No prior experience required; 1 year of patient care experience preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.
- Certification from a Patient Care Technician program preferred.
