Patient Care Tech-Galter 4 Observation Full-time Nights

About the role

The Patient Care Technician at Northwestern Medicine Galter 4 Observation works full-time nights. This position is classified as a Night Job (3rd).

Responsibilities

• Takes and records vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, blood pressure, and output.
• Applies cardiac monitor/oximetry, obtains EKG, performs phlebotomy, and administers enemas.
• Collects specimens, distributes nourishments, prepares patients for meals, provides morning and evening care, and performs newborn care.
• Ambulates patients, positions them for procedures, and applies comfort and safety measures.
• Assists with pre-and post-operative care, transports patients, and responds to emergency situations.
• Reports observations and documents changes in patient condition promptly.
• Performs post-mortem care and transports bodies to the morgue.
• Carefully maintains a safe and clean environment, including maintaining temperature logs, defrosting refrigerators, cleaning utility rooms, and stocking equipment.
• Completes charges, orders supplies, and participates in staff meetings.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or enrollment in a School of Nursing with successful completion of basic clinical rotations.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit-based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required; associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, families, nursing, and medical staff.
