About the role
The Registered Nurse-Observation position is a full-time night shift role at Northwestern Medicine. The salary range is from USD 34.50 to USD 55.20 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Assessment: Collects and analyzes patient data.
- Data collection involves the patient, and includes the family and significant other as appropriate.
- Prioritizes data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or need.
- Pertinent data are collected using appropriate assessment techniques and instruments.
- The data collection process is systemic and ongoing.
- Planning: Develops a Plan of Care using an interdisciplinary approach.
- Individualizes the plan to the patient (e.g., age-specific, culturally sensitive, etc.) and the patient’s condition.
- Develops the plan with the patient, family and significant other as appropriate and provides education utilizing suitable instructional materials and methods.
- The plan reflects current nursing practice and provides for continuity of care.
- Documents the plan.
- Implementation: The Nurse Implements the Interventions Identified in the Plan of Care.
- Interventions are consistent with the established plan of care.
- Interventions are implemented in a safe, timely and appropriate plan of care.
- Documents the interventions.
- Evaluation: The Nurse Evaluates the Patient’s Progress toward Attainment of Goals.
- Evaluation is systemic, ongoing and criterion-based.
- The patient, family, significant other and interdisciplinary team members are involved in the evaluation process as appropriate.
- Ongoing assessment data are used to revise outcomes and the plan of care as appropriate.
- The effectiveness of interventions is evaluated in relation to outcomes.
- The patient’s responses to interventions are documented.
- The Nurse Contributes to Team Effectiveness within the Unit.
- Demonstrates accountability and collaborative practice with co-workers, other disciplines and departments.
- Identifies potential conflictual situations and facilitates resolution using established communication channels.
- Participates in the formation, implementation and evaluation of unit goals.
- Serves as a resource to new staff, students and other NMH personnel.
- Assists with the precepting/orientation of new staff.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an NLN accredited school/college of nursing who has passed the NCLEX examination and completed and submitted to the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation an application for licensure as a registered professional nurse.
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation recognition (healthcare provider level).
- Analytical ability is required.
- Communication skill is required in order to teach and lead.
- Interacts effectively and collaborates with others in difficult situations.
