About the role
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports activities of daily living, monitors vital signs, performs phlebotomy, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and adheres to patient safety protocols under the supervision of the professional RN nurse. They observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional states and document observations accurately, reporting changes to the nurse or medical staff promptly.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living
- Maintains vital signs and monitors patient’s condition
- Performs phlebotomy, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal
- Complies with patient safety practices
- Observes and documents patients’ physical, mental, and emotional states
- Reports any changes to the nurse or medical staff promptly
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- One of the following certifications:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency Services including EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program beyond prerequisites, having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT, or PT
- Current work experience within the past three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
Qualifications
