Patient Care Host/Hostess - Full Time

About the Role

Under the supervision of the Director of Food Services, the Patient Care Host/Hostess provides personalized meal service to patients. This role involves assisting patients with meal selections, serving meals, preparing food, monitoring patient intakes, and clearing and cleaning patient dishware. Duties may also include stocking pantries.

Responsibilities

• Complete a Patient Care Host/Hostess training program.
• Ensure meal selections meet guidelines for modified diets per diet manual.
• Work directly with patients in selecting meals and communicate those selections to production staff.
• Calculate, prepare, and serve between-meal feedings, nutritional supplements, and tube feedings as ordered.
• Maintain accurate written and oral communication with other patient care team members, including monitoring and recording patient intake and communicating this data to dietitians or nursing staff as needed (may include calorie counts).
• Obtain the current diet list of patients from the hospital computer prior to each meal period and maintain accurate patient diet information according to department procedures.
• Assist in assembling meals and serve them to patients.
• Collect dishware following meal service, transport it to the dish room, and assist in cleanup.
• Stock patient or provider pantries with supplies, ensuring proper labeling, dating, and rotation of all stock.
• Prepare cold foods such as salads and sandwiches as requested, including all associated foods.
• Maintain exemplary customer service to create quality outcomes.
• Communicate any problems, concerns, or potential issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Assist in maintaining a high level of sanitation in the Food Services Department.
• Follow procedures for monitoring patient intakes and calorie counts, if assigned.
• Record and maintain all assigned documents and forms according to department procedures and take corrective action as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• One year of experience working directly with customers.
• Six months of experience working with computers or computerized equipment.
• One year of experience working directly with customers, clients, or patients in institutional food service or healthcare.
