About the role

The Patient Care Associate (PCA)/Behavioral Health Associate (BHA) provides basic patient care in a psychiatric care environment or in a medical-surgical environment under the direction of licensed nursing staff. This role ensures safe, quality patient care and applies knowledge of patient growth and development in interactions with patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities designed to maintain personal hygiene such as bathing, grooming, and skin care.
• Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, and turns.
• Ensure a clean and orderly patient environment to promote safety and infection prevention.
• Notify clinical staff of any changes in a patient’s condition or safety concerns.
• Apply infection control concepts and techniques.
• Monitor, record, and effectively communicate the patient’s condition, activities, behaviors, and safety concerns using computerized documentation systems.
• Take vital signs and perform phlebotomy (blood draws) and glucose checks.
