Patient Care Assistant I- Per Diem

About the role

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, this role assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Additionally, the role involves taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including but not limited to, vital signs, EKGs, bathing, and other sanitary needs of patients.
• Transfers and assists with ambulation of patients, and provides 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes.
• Performs phlebotomy and assists RNs and physicians with exams and treatments as required.
• Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding as needed.
• Ensures patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately.
• Retrieves, sets up, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
• Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
• Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
• Interacts effectively with patients, visitors, and other care team members.
• Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
• Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (preferred).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (preferred).
• Certified Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician certification (preferred).
• Nursing Assistant (LNA - New Hampshire) certification (preferred).
• 0-1 year of experience working in patient care/elder care (preferred).

Skills

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong patient/customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
