About the role

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at Nexus Children’s Hospital supports children and adolescents with medical and behavioral health needs. This role involves providing direct care, fostering a safe environment, and collaborating with healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision for pediatric patients, including ADLs like bathing, dressing, feeding, transfers, and grooming.
  • Observe, monitor, and document patients' behavior, affect, participation, and vital signs.
  • Foster a safe, structured, and nurturing environment consistent with trauma-informed care practices.
  • Support therapeutic and educational programming, recreational activities, and behavioral interventions.
  • Aid in implementing individualized care and behavioral support plans under clinical direction.
  • Respond to patient crises using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques to ensure safety.
  • Collaborate with nurses, therapists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, and behavioral specialists for integrated and compassionate care.

Requirements

  • De-escalation Training – required within 30 days of hire
  • CPR / BLS Certification – required

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or adolescents with medical or psychiatric needs is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, or weekends is necessary.
  • Passion for helping young patients achieve recovery and independence is essential.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively

Pay

$25-$30 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

12-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
