About the role
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports nursing staff in delivering patient care, performing clerical tasks, organizing the unit environment, and maintaining equipment.
Responsibilities
- Responds to patient calls within 10 minutes, anticipates patient needs, and makes rounds to reduce calls.
- Maintains positive interactions with patients and visitors, smiles, and is pleasant during all interactions.
- Provides necessary data to the RN and contributes to the patient's plan of care.
- Performs essential skills to ensure positive patient outcomes, including vital signs, weight, intake and output, hygiene, and ambulation.
- Documents all care provided, including vital signs, intake and output, meal percentages, equipment used, and patient care.
- Communicates effectively with patients and visitors, identifies self, explains the plan of care, and reports pertinent information to the RN/Charge Nurse.
- Maintains a safe environment, ensuring no food/drinks in the nurses station, no open containers in the patient pantry, and no outside food in the patient refrigerator.
- Maintains cleanliness and confidentiality of the unit, including keeping the fire door closed and ensuring patient records are confidential.
- Collaborates with the RN throughout the shift regarding patient care and data collection.
- Reports significant changes in patient condition, patient and family concerns, and patient refusal of care to the RN/Charge Nurse.
- Ensures the unit is in continuous survey readiness and maintains a tidy and clean environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate from an accredited Certified Nursing Program
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (grandfathered for those hired/transferred before 8/2016)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City)
