About the role
A Patient Care Assistant performs routine nursing services under the supervision of a professional nurse or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR). This role is based at the VMC Main Campus in Renton, WA, and is a full-time position within the SEIU-Service category.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine nursing services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR).
- Report significant signs and symptoms, changes in patient condition, malfunctioning equipment, and patient or family concerns to the RN/LPN or CAR.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, including cardiac/pulmonary arrest, psychiatric emergencies, postpartum hemorrhage (Birth Center), and newborn emergencies (Birth Center).
- Demonstrate safe use of patient care equipment and understanding of developmental/behavioral characteristics of all age groups served (neonate, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
- Perform phlebotomy and chem strip procedures according to correct procedures (MA-Phlebotomy additional duties).
- Maintain biannual phlebotomy certification.
Requirements
- Current licensure to practice in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers.
- MA-Phlebotomy certification required (or must obtain within 90 days of hire).
- One year of patient care experience preferred.
- Capability to comprehend, execute, and act within scope of practice.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with all age groups.
Pay
Salary range: $27.34 - $43.61 per hour, depending on experience.
Schedule
Full-time position with variable hours, typically 0700-1930 on day shifts.
