About the role

A Patient Care Assistant performs routine nursing services under the supervision of a professional nurse or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR). This role includes phlebotomy duties and serves a diverse patient population across varying age groups.

Responsibilities

• Reports significant signs and symptoms, observations in changes in patient condition (such as, but not limited to, level of consciousness or mobility, breathing pattern, skin color, pain, difficulty swallowing, new wound drainage, decreased output, etc.), equipment that is alarming or malfunctioning, and concerns related to patient or family behavior or emotional status or problems with patient compliance to the Registered Nurse (RN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR).
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to cardiac/pulmonary arrest, psychiatric emergencies, postpartum hemorrhage (specific to Birth Center), and newborn emergencies (specific to Birth Center).
• Demonstrates safe use of patient care equipment.
• Demonstrates understanding of the developmental/behavioral characteristics of ages served: Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric (older adult).
• Performs phlebotomy as requested according to correct procedure.
• Maintains biannual certification.
• Performs chem strip procedure according to procedure.

Qualifications

• Current licensure to practice in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant required.
• AHA BLS for healthcare providers required.
• MA - Phlebotomy certification required (or must obtain within 90 days of hire).
• One (1) year patient care experience preferred.
