About the role

A Patient Care Assistant performs routine nursing services under the supervision of a professional nurse or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR). This role includes phlebotomy duties and requires certification (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire).

Responsibilities

• Perform routine nursing services under supervision.
• Report significant signs, symptoms, and changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR), including:
  • Level of consciousness or mobility changes.
  • Breathing patterns, skin color, pain, or difficulty swallowing.
  • New wound drainage or decreased output.
  • Equipment alarms or malfunctions.
  • Patient/family behavior, emotional status, or compliance concerns.
• Respond appropriately to:
  • Cardiac/pulmonary arrest.
  • Psychiatric emergencies.
  • Postpartum hemorrhage (Birth Center-specific).
  • Newborn emergencies (Birth Center-specific).
• Demonstrate safe use of patient care equipment.
• Understand developmental/behavioral characteristics of all age groups served:
  • Neonate
  • Child
  • Adolescent
  • Adult
  • Geriatric (older adult)
• Perform phlebotomy and chem strip procedures according to protocol.
• Maintain biannual phlebotomy certification.

Requirements

• Current Washington State Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licensure.
• AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers.
• One (1) year of patient care experience (preferred).
• MA-Phlebotomy certification (required or must obtain within 90 days of hire).
• Ability to comprehend and act within scope of practice.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
• Ability to work with all age groups and their physical/emotional developments.

Pay

Salary range: $27.34 – $43.61 per hour (DOE).
