About the role

The Patient Care Aide (PCA) works under the direction of the RN/LPN, providing direct patient care and maintaining patient care standards. The PCA must be able to work with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, organize and prioritize multiple tasks, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic nursing care within the Patient Care Aide scope of practice, addressing psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and physical needs.
  • Performs patient care considering age-specific standards.
  • Assists in patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Explains care procedures to patients and families, answering questions within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stress.
  • Responds to patient emergencies or distressful situations.
  • Ensures documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Assumes accountability for appropriate resource utilization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the PCA’s scope of practice.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED completion.
  • BLS certification required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
