Patient Assistant - Orthopedic ASC (casual position)

About the role

The Patient Assistant provides direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, utilizing his/her skill and expertise to complement other health care providers. Major functions include: collecting data, recording, and reporting patient information to the RN. Assisting patients with ambulating or providing appropriate activity using lift devices, transfer belts, etc. as necessary; assisting with nutritional needs (feeding); performing vital signs, i.e., temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; measuring and recording intake and output. Patient care is adapted to fit age-specific needs of each patient.

Responsibilities

  • Collects data, records, and reports patient information to the RN.
  • Ambulates or assists patients with appropriate activity using lift devices, transfer belts, etc.
  • Assists with nutritional needs (feeding).
  • Performs vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  • Makes measurements and records intake and output.
  • Adapts patient care to meet age-specific needs.

Requirements

  • BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, or American Red Cross.
  • High school graduate preferred.
  • Nursing Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Listed on the Nursing Assistant Registry preferred.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement 2 shifts a month. Monday-Friday, shifts vary to cover 6am-7pm ASC operating hours. No weekends or holidays, occ. Saturday in Q4.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of patient care protocols and procedures.
