About the role

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Patient Account Representative to assist with registration and billing to third party payers for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-IA.

Responsibilities

  • Receives claims and ensures clean copy is sent to insurance company.
  • Reviews paper claim and fills in locators for insurance company and updates series when needed.
  • Sends claim to insurance company (electronically or via mail).
  • Maintains knowledge of current standards with insurance company and assures compliance.
  • Follows up on claims on first-time billings and takes action as appropriate.
  • Solves discrepancies in bill payment by following up with insurance company.
  • Determines appropriate action to take (i.e., resubmitting claim, billing patient, billing secondary insurance).
  • Solves billing issues with insurance companies, patients and physicians’ offices.
  • Follows up on correspondence with customers.
  • Initiates communication with other health system departments for clarification.
  • Responds to customer inquiries via phone and takes appropriate action.
  • Documents all communications and actions in series system completely.
  • Registers functions:
    • Creates an account from clinic encounters.
    • Enters charges into computer system.

Requirements

  • Basic Skill Set:
    • 0-2 Years - Minimum of 6 months medical office or insurance experience.
    • High school or Equivalent (GED).
    • Associates Degree: degree in accounting preferred.
    • Billing experience preferred.
    • Experience with Brightree a plus!

  • Attends required safety programs.
  • Uses the personal protective equipment required of the job.
  • Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations.
  • Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture.
  • Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.

Skills

  • Medical office experience.
  • Insurance billing experience.
  • Knowledge of Brightree software.
