Patient Access Specialist PT, Evenings

About the role

This position is responsible for interviewing patients, verifying insurance, and collecting demographic and financial information in an outpatient facility. The role primarily works evening shifts and reports to a supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient interviews to gather and verify demographic, financial, and employment data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits via online or telephone inquiries, documenting all information in the system.
• Initiate pre-certification processes when required and obtain necessary signatures on forms such as Consent and Liability.
• Handle payments, issue receipts, and work toward collection goals, maintaining cash logs and daily deposits.
• Prepare and distribute reports, patient identification items, and informational materials, ensuring compliance with departmental guidelines.
• Communicate estimated financial responsibilities to patients, request payments, and refer patients needing extended payment options or financial assistance to appropriate programs.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in admissions, billing, collections, insurance, or customer service.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with office equipment, and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and data entry.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in registration or scheduling.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
