Patient Access Specialist
About the role
Provide a consistent, compassionate, and professional patient experience throughout registration and admission. Assess each patient’s ability to complete registration before services or room placement, including bedside registration when needed. Notify clinical staff immediately if a patient appears to need urgent attention. Complete registrations accurately and on time to ensure accounts are compliant, billable, and do not require rework. Verify patient information, issue armbands promptly, and confirm armband accuracy with the patient. Collect and document co-pays when appropriate, following EMTALA and other regulatory guidelines. Escort or direct patients to the appropriate location after registration. Secure, document, store, and return patient valuables according to policy. Complete order entry, work queues, account notes, and system updates accurately and timely. Scan and maintain all required documentation. Complete workers’ compensation and Labor & Industries forms accurately and obtain patient signatures. Present required forms, including ABNs, Advance Directives, and Patient Rights and Responsibilities, and obtain signatures when needed. Maintain confidentiality of patient demographic, medical, and financial information in compliance with HIPAA.
Responsibilities
- Avoid rework by ensuring registrations are accurate and on time.
- Notify clinical staff of urgent patient needs.
- Document and secure patient valuables.
- Complete and scan required forms.
- Present necessary forms to patients.
- Ensure patient information is accurate and HIPAA-compliant.
- Resolve or escalate service issues impacting patient care or operational success.
- Support the Information Desk as needed.
- Coordinate bed assignments, placements, and transfers with nursing units.
- Enter diagnostic imaging and ancillary test orders accurately.
- Facilitate guest housing rentals, payments, housekeeping, maintenance, and security coordination.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of CPT and ICD coding and medical terminology.
- Demonstrated service excellence with patients, families, sponsors, caregivers, and team members.
- Proven effective and respectful face-to-face, telephone, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven sound judgment and ability to work within delegated authorities.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve and escalate issues.
- Proven excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment in a positive and professional manner.
- Track record in organizing and planning with demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and utilization of electronic and automated work tools (e.g., online access tools to payers, work drivers).
- Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to perform in alignment with company mission and values.
- Basic knowledge of insurance and managed care payors, healthcare registration, Medicare Secondary Payor, EMTALA, and ABN.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively with interruptions.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
Skills

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
