Patient Access Representative - Neurosurgery

Job Summary

Affords assistance in coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certification. Serves as a clinical liaison with physician practices, engaging in pre-visit services.

Pre-registers/Registers Patients

  • Accurately captures patient demographic and financial data.
  • Utilizes various registration methods, including mobile carts.

Collects Patient Balances

  • Collects patient balances, co-payments, co-insurance, or other payment types.
  • Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met.
  • Obtains prior authorizations and referrals as necessary before patient arrival.

Responds to Customer Inquiries

  • Addresses customer concerns and queries.
  • Assists with departmental coverage as needed.

Manages Daily Appointment Schedules

  • Coordinates and manages daily appointment schedules.
  • Initiates reminder calls and contacts all referrals.
  • Maintains daily schedules using escort or wheeled transport equipment.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • At least 1 year of medical office or related customer service experience, required.
  • Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding, preferred.
  • Experience with insurance processes and regulations, preferred.
  • Effective conflict management and professional communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management and ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Department / Location Specific Notes

Care Delivery Area and Outpatient Clinics: A strong background in customer service may be considered in lieu of medical office or related experience.

Working Conditions

  • Operates computer and other office equipment.
  • Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Sedentary work.
  • Primarily operates in an office environment.
  • Communicates and exchanges accurate information.
  • Close visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
