Patient Access Representative Lead - Birth Place/Labor & Delivery
Position Summary
The Patient Access Authorization Lead directly impacts the revenue cycle by accurately processing data relating to insurance, authorization, and demographic information following unit-specific policies. They assess surgical and diagnostic patient information to be systematically available hospital-wide. The Authorization Lead meets established quality and productivity standards, interacts professionally with MDs, MD office staff, employees, outside vendors, patients, and patient representatives. They identify workflow changes to assist in reducing authorization denials for the organization. This role works closely with the surgical HUB to ensure specific procedure codes are appropriately aligned with the authorization being obtained by the payer. The Authorization Lead assists in training and implementing standard work for the authorization team to ensure all procedures are paid for.
Education, Training, Experience, Certification & Licensure
- Two years of medical office or customer service experience
- Participates in orientation, patient access training program, and continuing education
- Updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise
- Related experience in hospital registration, Eclipsys, or PHS/HPF, and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Special Equipment, Skills Or Other Requirements
- Word processing skills required
- PC experience
- Basic mathematical skills
- Effective verbal and written communication and human relations skills
Work Environment and Hazards
Clinical Setting. Exposure Class I or II; service specific.
Physical Demands
Sedentary work: standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of time; repetitive motion of hands, fingers, and wrists.
