About the role

This position plays a crucial role in supporting departmental efficiencies within the healthcare setting. Duties include patient registration, scheduling, and financial clearance. Responsibilities also extend to educating patients about financial liabilities and ensuring compliance with financial and cash control policies.

Responsibilities

- Greet patients according to Conifer Standards of Care, providing exceptional customer service, and completing full patient registration at the point of service. - Adhere to financial and cash control policies and procedures, thoroughly explaining and securing necessary hospital and patient legal forms such as advance directives, conditions of service, consent for treatment, and important messages from Medicare, EMTALA, etc. - Scan and file patient information packets/folders for upcoming hospital services. - Assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures by entering data into the scheduling system, providing appointment instructions, and handling other tasks as needed. - Educate patients about their patient financial liabilities and employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service. - Perform hospital cash reconciliations and secure payment entries in accordance with financial and cash control policies and procedures. - Conduct medical necessity checks and verifications in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines, verify insurance, benefits, coverage, and eligibility, and complete assigned registration financial clearance work lists activities. - Secure insurance authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled hospital services and notify payors of inpatient visits. - Assist with scheduling and coordinating post-discharge care for patients.

Requirements

- Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm. - Demonstrated working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer. - Knowledge of function and relationships within a hospital environment preferred. - Customer service skills and experience. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. - Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications. - Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements preferred. - Understanding of Compliance standards preferred. - Must be able to perform essential job duties in at least two Patient Access service areas including the Emergency Department. - Uses proper negotiation techniques to professionally collect money owed by patients/guarantors. - Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with both internal and external clients leading to more effective communication and higher productivity and accuracy. - Must be able to appropriately interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care.

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or GED required. - 0 – 1 year in a Customer Service role. - 0 – 1 year administrative experience in medical facilities, health insurance, or related areas preferred. - Some college coursework is preferred.
