Job Summary
Affords assistance in coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certification. Serves as a clinical liaison with physician practices, engaging in pre-visit services.
Details of the Position
- Pre-registers/registers patients with accurate demographic and financial data.
- Collects patient balances, co-payment, co-insurance, or other payment types.
- Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met, obtaining prior authorizations and referrals as necessary.
- Responds to customer inquiries.
- Affords departmental coverage as needed.

What You Bring
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of medical office or related customer service experience.
- Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding.
- Knowledge of insurance processes and regulations.
- Effective conflict management and professional communication skills.
- Excellent time management and ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
Department / Location Specific Notes
- Care Delivery and Outpatient Clinics: Consideration given to strong background in customer service in lieu of medical office or related experience.
- Ketchikan Medical Center: Management of ED incoming phone calls, monitoring OB Prosec/McKinley alarm system, assisting with Cardiac Rehab departmental charge entry.
- Southeast Alaska - PHMG: Collaboration with healthcare teams to obtain VA/Tricare or State of Alaska Medicaid authorizations for medical care and travel, including air or ground transportation and lodging/meals for patients and their escorts.
- Maintaining VA and/or State of Alaska logs, accurately tracking authorization status and voucher usage for stock replenishment.
Working Conditions
- Operates computer and other office equipment.
- Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Predominantly works in an office environment.
- Communicates and exchanges accurate information through close visual acuity.
