Job Summary

Affords assistance in coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certification. Serves as a clinical liaison with physician practices, engaging in pre-visit services.

Details of the Position

  • Pre-registers/registers patients with accurate demographic and financial data.
  • Collects patient balances, co-payment, co-insurance, or other payment types.
  • Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met, obtaining prior authorizations and referrals as necessary.
  • Responds to customer inquiries.
  • Affords departmental coverage as needed.
  • What You Bring

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • At least 1 year of medical office or related customer service experience.
    • Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding.
    • Knowledge of insurance processes and regulations.
    • Effective conflict management and professional communication skills.
    • Excellent time management and ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
    • Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

    Department / Location Specific Notes

    • Care Delivery and Outpatient Clinics: Consideration given to strong background in customer service in lieu of medical office or related experience.
    • Ketchikan Medical Center: Management of ED incoming phone calls, monitoring OB Prosec/McKinley alarm system, assisting with Cardiac Rehab departmental charge entry.
    • Southeast Alaska - PHMG: Collaboration with healthcare teams to obtain VA/Tricare or State of Alaska Medicaid authorizations for medical care and travel, including air or ground transportation and lodging/meals for patients and their escorts.
    • Maintaining VA and/or State of Alaska logs, accurately tracking authorization status and voucher usage for stock replenishment.

    Working Conditions

    • Operates computer and other office equipment.
    • Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    • Predominantly works in an office environment.
    • Communicates and exchanges accurate information through close visual acuity.
