About the role

The Patient Access Representative is the first line of quality service to our patients and guests, serving as the ambassador of service and setting the standard. This position greets customers and provides the highest level of customer service while performing timely and accurate registrations, scheduling, benefit verification, patient education, scanning, faxing, and securing appropriate authorizations and referrals for services.

Responsibilities

  • Treats all customers with dignity, respect, and courtesy at all times, proactively assisting as needed.
  • Schedules surgeries, procedures, PAT appointments, and first post-op visits with appropriate services, communicating appointments to patients, physicians, and others as required.
  • Maintains department database as backup and acts as liaison to facilitate communications between physicians, patients/families, PAT, OR, patient access, patient accounts, payors, and outside customers.
  • Follows hospital and departmental rules and regulations, adhering to policies/procedures such as confidentiality, code of conduct, attendance, and payroll policies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean patient care area, using work time productively.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment, specifically in patient access.
  • Insurance verification experience.
  • Healthcare scheduling experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (or higher).

Qualifications

  • Medical terminology knowledge (highly preferred).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (highly encouraged).
  • Experience working with managed care health plans.
  • Excellent patient registration skills and customer service/telephone etiquette.
  • Proficient computer skills, including internet, typing, and data entry.
