Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy, assigning medical record number if appropriate.
  • Distribute and explain forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members; ensure all necessary signatures are obtained for treatment.
  • Meet with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provide explanation of process and address concerns and questions.
  • Communicate with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain precertification/authorization as necessary.
  • Determine and accept required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refer to financial counselors for follow-up.
  • Research the patient's visit history to ensure compliance with third-party payer requirements, completing appropriate documentation as applicable.
  • Collect co-pays and other funds from patients based upon established criteria.
  • Check and stock supplies as needed.
  • Serve as back-up for other functional areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 3 years of directly related experience may be substituted for the required education.
  • Billing or collection experience preferred.
  • Computer experience required.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM or 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM.
