Patient Access Representative

About the role

The Patient Access Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive patient experience. You will interact with patients, family members, and visitors, and perform tasks such as pre-admitting, admitting, and registering patients. Your responsibilities also include interviewing patients or relatives to gather necessary information, verifying insurance benefits, explaining financial requirements, and collecting outstanding patient portions.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive impression for each patient, family member, visitor, or staff member while performing tasks such as pre-admitting, admitting, and registering patients.
• Interview patients or relatives to obtain demographic and financial information required to complete the registration/admission and record the information in the electronic record system.
• Verify insurance benefits; explain financial requirements to the patient or patient representative, and collect the outstanding patient portion prior to or at the point of service.
• Serve as a mentor to new associates and assist in new employee orientation.

Requirements

• Office experience in a healthcare environment, medical terminology, ability to multitask and prioritize skills preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, Windows XP, Windows 7, utilization of website search engines.
• High School diploma required.

Physical Requirements

• Sedentary work (prolonged periods of sitting)
• Erect up to 10 lbs force occasionally
