About the role
The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate patient entrance into Mercy facilities
- Schedule and register patients
- Verify patient insurance benefits
- Pre-certify patient cases
- Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
- Work with insurance carriers and comply with Medicare guidelines
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and accreditation agency requirements
Requirements
- 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
- Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
- High School diploma required; some college helpful
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines, and perform daily tasks accurately
- Knowledgeable and experienced with various computer systems
- Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
- Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
Qualifications
- High School diploma required

- Effective communication (oral and written)
- Excellent telephone etiquette
- Positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff, and insurance companies
- Knowledgeable about various computer systems
- Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
