About the role
BJC HealthCare is a large nonprofit organization serving the greater St. Louis area. The Patient Access Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth patient flow and accurate billing.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate all aspects of patient entry into BJC facilities.
- Communicate professionally and positively with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Ensure accurate patient identification, registration, and scheduling.
- Verify insurance information and collect applicable patient payments.
- Comply with complex regulatory guidelines such as Medicare Secondary Payer, HIPAA, and EMTALA.
- Provide preparation instructions and financial education for scheduled procedures.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- No prior experience required.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a calm demeanor.
- Knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal/state regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree preferred.
- Supervisor experience may be considered.
- Experience with hospital compliance and regulatory requirements.
