Essential Job Functions And Core Responsibilities

  • Acknowledging patients or guests and their requests
  • Aiding in the training of new employees
  • Demonstrating awareness and sensitivity to the rights of patients and significant others
  • Documenting any financial arrangements made in the patient’s account notes
  • Notifying the Admitting Manager or Business Office Manager of all problem accounts that require special attention
  • Exhibiting concern, tact, and discretion in all working relationships
  • Functioning with an awareness of safety issues and reporting unsafe issues appropriately
  • Maintaining the highest service standards regarding patient care
  • Making patients' needs the first priority
  • Being physically able to push a wheelchair
  • Willing to meet staffing needs of the department and be available to work overtime, holidays, and shift changes
  • Remaining informed and compliant with relevant laws and regulations
  • Remaining informed regarding various insurance and service programs
  • Offering assistance promptly, cordially, and completely
  • Promoting unity and teamwork among co-workers and other departments
  • Handling all confidential information responsibly
  • Completing the patient’s electronic medical record and ensuring appropriate paperwork is sent to the proper destination
  • Obtaining the Advance Directive information from inpatient, ER, OPS, and bed patients
  • Accurately entering data in the computer and on the Conditions of Admission
  • Speaking with the patient about their financial responsibility for the bill
  • Collecting deposits on all self-paying patients and co-payments from patients whose insurance requires one
  • If the patient is unable to meet their financial obligation at the time of service, the Patient Access Representative is responsible to speak to them regarding the Hospital's requirements and make financial arrangements
  • Completing promissory note, when necessary
  • Performing various other duties as assigned
  • Understanding and participating in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program
  • Understanding the Consent form, Advance Directive, and other forms the patient is required to sign
  • Maintaining an account accuracy rate of no less than 80%
  • Completing shift logs in the Emergency Department
  • Performing, understanding, and demonstrating ability of all courses designated, within 90 days of hire for new employees, and within 1 year of 02/12/2018 for current employees

Job Requirements

  • Education: Minimum - High School diploma or equivalent
  • Work Experience: Minimum - 2 years minimum of customer service skills required
  • Licenses and Certifications: Required - BLS certified or must provide BLS certificate within 30 days of hire. MAB certification required. New hires must obtain within 6 months of hire.

Pay

The hourly salary rate range for this position is $25.75 - $34.65.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Admitting Manager, the Patient Access Representative is responsible for interviewing incoming patients (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department) to obtain all pertinent data for admission and produce a complete and accurate admission record. This includes medical record information, as well as demographic and financial related information. Is responsible for answering all inquiries related to admissions, collecting deposits or payments, interacting with the nursing units and ancillary departments, and providing directions to various areas within the hospital.
