Patient Access Rep -Baton Rouge - ED - 2pm to 1030pm Rotating Weekends

About the role

We're seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Your role will be to greet patients and guests courteously, initiate scheduling, and ensure smooth check-in processes. You'll also handle financial transactions and provide clear explanations of insurance benefits.

Responsibilities

• Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
• Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.
• Collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
• Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
• Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
• Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships.
• Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy and adapting communication style.
• Handle other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or similar customer service environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with an Associate’s Degree being preferred.
• Experience in front-line registration, financial counseling, or similar roles involving direct customer/patient interaction.
• Preferred certifications include CHAM, CHAA, or Medical Assistant certification.

Qualifications

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to solve practical problems under high stress.
• Excellent decision-making skills and strong attention to detail.
• Collaborative working abilities and the capacity to exercise sound judgment in handling difficult situations.

Skills

• Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and information retrieval.
• Keyboard proficiency.
• Technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits and payor guidelines.
• Ability to represent the company professionally and cross-train to support multiple functions.
